EXTORTION ALLEGATIONS ROCK RIVERS POLICE! OFFICERS ARRESTED AS COMMISSIONER OF POLICE ORDERS FULL-SCALE INVESTIGATION
The Rivers State Police Command has launched an immediate investigation into allegations of extortion involving police officers after a video and reports circulating on social media triggered widespread public concern.
According to the Command, the allegations specifically implicate ASP Omomefe Akin Geoffrey and other officers who were reportedly accused of collecting money unlawfully from members of the public while carrying out official duties.
In a swift response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, ordered the arrest, detention, and investigation of the officers involved pending the outcome of a comprehensive inquiry.
CP Adepoju Takes Firm Stand
The Commissioner emphasized that extortion, illegal collection of money, abuse of authority, and any form of unprofessional conduct are completely unacceptable within the Nigeria Police Force.
He reiterated that the Rivers State Police Command remains committed to professionalism, accountability, integrity, and respect for human rights.
Thorough Investigation Underway
The Command assured residents that the investigation will be transparent, impartial, and thorough. Authorities stressed that any officer found culpable will face appropriate disciplinary measures in line with the Nigeria Police Act and other relevant laws.
