2027 ELECTIONS: POLICE TO TRAIN 10,000 OFFICERS, REAFFIRM COMMITMENT TO NEUTRALITY AND VOTER SAFETY

The Nigeria Police Force has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring peaceful, credible and secure elections in 2027, with plans to train 10,000 police officers to strengthen election security and protect voters across the country.

The planned training forms part of broader efforts to prepare officers for the security demands of the 2027 General Elections, with emphasis on professional conduct, intelligence-led planning, inter-agency collaboration and politically neutral policing.

The Force reiterated that Nigerians must be able to exercise their electoral rights in a safe and secure environment, stressing that police officers have a responsibility to perform their duties professionally and without political bias.

The security engagement was attended by Brigadier General J.A. Ifeanyi, representing the Chief of Army Staff; Group Captain Yakubu Yusuf, representing the Chief of Air Staff; DCG Zakari Ibrahim, representing the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps; and Alhaji Mohammed Sheidu, Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund.

Members of the Force Management Team and other senior police officers were also present, underscoring the importance of cooperation among security institutions in preparing for the elections.

The Nigeria Police Force stated that sustained training, intelligence-led operations and stronger collaboration with other security agencies would remain central to its preparations.

As the 2027 General Elections approach, the Force says its priority is to provide a secure environment in which eligible Nigerians can participate in the electoral process without fear or intimidation
