GUN HIDDEN IN A LOAF OF BREAD! RIVERS STATE POLICE UNCOVER GUN SMUGGLING PLOT

The Rivers State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its ongoing fight against crime after operatives recovered an illegal firearm ingeniously concealed inside a loaf of bread during a routine security operation in Port Harcourt.

The dramatic discovery was made during a stop-and-search exercise along Azikiwe Road by Red Cross Junction, where police officers intercepted a vehicle and carried out a thorough search of its occupants.

During the operation, officers recovered a Browning pistol hidden inside a loaf of bread belonging to one Braya Nanas, a resident of New Road, Borikiri, who was travelling as a passenger in the vehicle.

Suspect Allegedly Confesses

Preliminary investigations revealed that the recovered firearm had no visible serial number, raising serious concerns about its origin and intended use.

Police disclosed that the suspect allegedly admitted ownership of the weapon and claimed he purchased it in Okrika for the sum of ₦800,000.

Commissioner of Police Warns Residents

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, described the discovery as another reminder of the increasingly deceptive methods employed by criminal elements to transport illegal weapons.

He urged residents to remain security-conscious, stay alert to suspicious persons, packages, and activities, and promptly report any security concerns to the nearest Police Station.

The Commissioner also warned members of the public against accepting, transporting, or storing packages whose contents are unknown, noting that such actions could unknowingly aid criminal activities.

Police Call for Community Support

The Rivers State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating crime through intelligence-led policing and community partnership.

Residents are encouraged to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information capable of preventing crime and enhancing public safety across Rivers State.
