The Rivers State Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in its investigation into the reported kidnapping of a woman identified as Loveth, with the arrest of a suspected member of the gang and the recovery of a vehicle, firearms, ammunition and other exhibits.

According to the Command, the incident occurred on 2nd September 2026, when Loveth was reportedly accosted by armed men while seated in front of her shop. The assailants allegedly fired shots into the air before forcefully abducting her and fleeing in a vehicle.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, directed operatives to intensify efforts to track down those responsible.

Operatives of the Eleme Police Division subsequently commenced intelligence-led operations to locate the suspected kidnappers.

During the operation, police operatives reportedly engaged the suspected gang members in an exchange of gunfire, leading to the arrest of 35-year-old Victor Ini, a native of Akwa Ibom State.

Exhibits Recovered

Police said the following items were recovered during the operation:

One silver-coloured mini Keke bus, registration number RBC 992 XE, Abuja

Two locally made pistols

One live ammunition

One mobile phone

Two identity cards

Two black gowns

One vehicle number plate, registration number KRK 528 HG

The Command said intelligence gathering and surveillance operations have been intensified to identify and apprehend other members of the suspected kidnapping gang.

CP Adepoju reassured residents that the Rivers State Police Command remains committed to protecting lives and property and bringing criminal elements to justice.

He warned that there would be no safe haven for criminals in Rivers State, stressing that the Command would continue to deploy all lawful and available resources against kidnapping and other violent crimes.

The Commissioner also advised residents to strengthen their security measures and remain particularly vigilant during the ember period, when criminal activities may increase.

Members of the public are encouraged to provide the Police with credible and timely information that could assist ongoing efforts to prevent crime and apprehend suspected criminals.
