The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has presented cheques totaling ₦2.32 billion to 2,971 beneficiaries and next-of-kin of deceased police officers under various welfare and insurance schemes of the Nigeria Police Force.

The presentation, held on Thursday, covers families of police officers who lost their lives while serving the nation and were beneficiaries under the Group Life Assurance, Group Personal Accident, and IGP Family Welfare Schemes.

₦2.32 Billion Released to 2,971 Beneficiaries

The beneficiaries comprise families of police officers covered under several insurance policy years, including:

• 2017/2018
• 2018/2019
• 2020/2021
• 2021/2022
• 2022/2023
• 2024/2025

The payment also includes outstanding balances recovered from insurance companies following previous partial settlements.

The development represents a significant step in addressing pending financial entitlements owed to families of officers who died in the line of duty.

IGP Disu: Payment Is More Than Financial Support

Speaking during the presentation, IGP Disu described the exercise as more than simply distributing financial benefits.

According to him, the initiative represents the institutional responsibility of the Nigeria Police Force toward families of officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.

The IGP acknowledged that no amount of money could replace a lost loved one but noted that the payments would provide practical assistance to affected families during difficult periods.

He also reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to recognising the sacrifices made by fallen officers.

Police Families to Receive Continued Welfare Support

IGP Disu assured families of deceased officers that the Nigeria Police Force would continue exploring legitimate avenues of support for them and their dependants.

He identified personnel welfare as a major priority of his administration and said the Force would continue implementing initiatives aimed at improving:

The IGP stressed that officers serving across the country continue to operate in challenging security environments and make significant sacrifices in the line of duty.

Force Insurance Unit Directed to Increase Awareness

The Inspector-General also directed the Force Insurance Unit to intensify sensitisation campaigns across police commands and formations.

The objective is to ensure that police officers and their families understand the insurance benefits available to them and know the appropriate procedures for accessing legitimate claims.

The directive is expected to improve awareness and reduce difficulties encountered by beneficiaries when processing insurance claims.

Force Insurance Officer Commends IGP

The Force Insurance Officer, ACP Lydia Ameh, commended IGP Disu for his leadership and support in prioritising the resolution of outstanding insurance claims.

Ameh said the progress recorded in recovering pending entitlements and improving claims administration demonstrated the importance placed on ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive their legitimate benefits.

She reaffirmed the commitment of the Force Insurance Unit to making the insurance process more efficient while protecting the interests of police personnel and their families.

Insurance Partners Urged to Pay Claims Promptly

IGP Disu also commended the insurance companies partnering with the Nigeria Police Force for their cooperation.

He urged them to ensure that legitimate claims are processed and settled promptly, emphasizing that timely insurance payments can provide an important lifeline to families who have lost their breadwinners.
