The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has visited Niger State to assess the security situation and ongoing rescue operations following the recent attack and abduction of worshippers in communities within the Dekara District of Borgu Local Government Area.

During the working visit, the IGP directed security operatives to intensify efforts to ensure the safe release of the abducted worshippers and bring those responsible for the attack to justice.

On Saturday, IGP Disu met with the Deputy Governor of Niger State, Comrade Yakubu Garba, who represented Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, at the Government House in Minna. He conveyed the condolences of the Nigeria Police Force to the Niger State Government, the affected communities, and families of the victims.

The IGP assured them that the rescue of the abducted persons and the arrest of the perpetrators remain top priorities for the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies involved in the operation.

Disu commended the Commissioner of Police in Niger State, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, for the Command's swift response to the incident and the timely provision of intelligence. He also praised the Niger State Government for its continued support to the Police, including the provision of operational vehicles, repairs of Armoured Personnel Carriers, and welfare support for officers and personnel.

Addressing officers and men of the Niger State Police Command, the IGP urged them to sustain intelligence-driven and professionally coordinated operations while prioritising the safety of the victims and residents of the affected communities.

He further assured the Command of continued support from Force Headquarters in the areas of logistics, mobility, intelligence, training, and other operational resources needed to strengthen the ongoing security operations.

The police chief also directed the Command to strengthen collaboration with other security agencies and deepen engagement with traditional rulers, religious leaders, community stakeholders, and residents to improve intelligence gathering and ensure rapid responses to security threats.

In his response, Deputy Governor Garba commended IGP Disu for personally visiting the state to assess the situation and boost ongoing rescue and security operations. He reaffirmed the Niger State Government's commitment to supporting the Police and other security agencies in restoring peace and securing the release of the abducted worshippers.

As part of his visit, IGP Disu also paid a condolence visit to the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Dr. Umar Farouk Bahago. Discussions during the visit focused on strengthening cooperation between security agencies and traditional institutions to enhance intelligence gathering, community engagement, peace-building, and public safety across Niger State.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to securing the release of the abducted worshippers, protecting vulnerable communities, and ensuring that all those behind the attack are identified, arrested, and brought to justice.
