POLICE TAKE OVER THE STREETS! INSIDE THE MASSIVE WALKATHON SHAKING RIVERS STATE TODAY

The streets of Rivers State came alive as the Nigeria Police Force, through the Rivers State Police Command, held a high-impact walkathon to mark Day Two of Police Week 2026.

The event, held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, was more than just a march—it was a bold statement of fitness, visibility policing, and stronger community engagement.

A Walk for Safety, Trust, and Visibility

Leading the charge was the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, alongside top management officers and key stakeholders.

Participants included members of:

Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA)

Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC)

POCACOV (Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices)

Supernumerary (SPY) Police

Other community stakeholders

The walkathon kicked off from the Police Headquarters and moved through major routes across the state, drawing attention and engagement from residents.

Why This Walkathon Matters

The exercise is part of ongoing activities for Police Week 2026 and aligns with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

The key goals include:

Promoting physical fitness among officers

Enhancing police visibility in communities

Building trust between citizens and law enforcement

Encouraging proactive and community-based policing

Strengthening Community Policing in Action

The walkathon also served as a practical demonstration of community policing—bringing officers and residents together in a non-enforcement setting to foster trust and cooperation.

Residents who witnessed the exercise saw a different side of policing—one focused on engagement, partnership, and presence rather than enforcement alone.

A Step Toward Safer Communities

With Police Week 2026 in full swing, the Rivers State Police Command continues to roll out activities designed to deepen public confidence and improve safety across the state.

The walkathon stands as a clear reminder that security is a shared responsibility, and building safer communities starts with trust and collaboration.
