PCRC and Partners Lead War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) Rally at the University of Port Harcourt

The War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) Rally, organized by the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Rivers State, took centre stage at the University of Port Harcourt on Thursday, October 30th, 2025.

The vibrant and impactful event brought together a wide array of community leaders, law enforcement agencies, civil society groups, and young people, all united in the mission to curb drug abuse and promote a healthier, safer society.

A United Front Against Drug Abuse

The rally was graced by representatives from all PCRC structures, including:

  • Area Commands and Divisional units across Rivers State
  • State and Corporate members
  • Women’s Committee and Youth Committee

The message was clear: drug abuse is everyone’s fight, and together, communities must rise to protect future generations.

Distinguished Guests and Partners

The event recorded a strong turnout of stakeholders and partners who lent their voices and presence to the cause. Notable among them were:

  • Prof. Owunari Georgewill, Vice Chancellor, University of Port Harcourt
  • Dean of Students Affairs, University of Port Harcourt
  • CSP Ahmed Doma, DPO Choba Division (representing the Rivers State Commissioner of Police)
  • National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)
  • International Federation of Female Lawyers (FIDA)
  • Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC)
  • Chifour Properties Ltd.
  • Movement Against Drugs and Antisocial Vices (MADAV)
  • Rivers International Film Festival (RIFF) Team

Several secondary schools were also represented, emphasizing the importance of early sensitization among youth.


A Message of Hope and Responsibility

Speakers at the rally reiterated the need for collaborative community action, stressing that the fight against drug abuse goes beyond law enforcement, it requires education, empathy, and empowerment.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Georgewill, praised the PCRC and its partners for taking the initiative, stating that such campaigns are vital in preserving the moral and mental well-being of students and citizens alike.

A Rally of Impact

Participants took part in a road walk across the University campus, waving banners and chanting anti-drug slogans to drive home the message of a drug-free Rivers State.

From colorful PCRC T-shirts to lively student engagement, the event combined education, entertainment, and community spirit to deliver a message that resonated across generations.
