RIVERS POLICE CRACK DOWN ON VEHICLES WITHOUT NUMBER PLATES — FLASH LIGHTS, TINTED CARS TO BE SEIZED FROM MARCH 16
Motorists across Rivers State are being put on notice as the Rivers State Police Command has announced a major statewide enforcement operation targeting vehicles violating key traffic and security regulations.
According to an official statement, the enforcement exercise will begin Monday, March 16, 2026, and will focus on vehicles operating without proper identification or using unauthorized security features.
Vehicles Without Number Plates to Be Impounded
The police warned that any vehicle found operating without valid registration number plates, or with covered or obscured number plates, will be stopped and impounded.
Authorities say such vehicles often pose serious security risks and are sometimes linked to criminal activities, making them a priority target in the upcoming operation.
Illegal Flash Lights Also Targeted
The Command also revealed that vehicles using revolving or flashing lights without official authorization will face strict penalties.
Motorists using such lights without an official approval letter from the relevant authorities will have their vehicles seized immediately.
According to police, unauthorized use of these lights can allow criminals to impersonate security officials and evade law enforcement.
Warning Over Tinted Commercial Vehicles
Another key focus of the enforcement drive is the use of tinted glasses on commercial vehicles.
Police say heavily tinted vehicles are frequently used by “one chance” kidnapping syndicates to carry out criminal operations.
Residents are therefore urged to exercise caution when boarding vehicles with dark or heavily tinted windows.
Police Advice to Motorists
The Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, assured residents that the exercise will be conducted professionally and fairly.
Motorists have been advised to:
- Ensure vehicles have valid and clearly visible number plates
- Remove any unauthorized revolving or flashing lights
- Avoid tinted glasses on commercial vehicles
- Always carry relevant vehicle documents while driving
- Remain vigilant when boarding commercial vehicles
Defaulters risk having their vehicles impounded and may face prosecution according to the law.
