RIVERS POLICE SPEAKS ON VIRAL SHOOTING VIDEO: OFFICER IN CUSTODY AS INVESTIGATION BEGINS
The Rivers State Police Command has reacted to a viral video circulating on social media concerning an alleged shooting incident involving a Police officer and a motorist in Rivers State.
According to the Command, preliminary information indicates that the incident occurred on 27th August 2026 and involved an altercation between a Police officer and the occupant, identified as Anthony Obodo.
The Command stated that a scuffle reportedly occurred between the two individuals, during which a gunshot was fired, subsequently resulting in the death of the occupant. Two other passersby were also reportedly injured during the incident.
OFFICER PLACED IN CUSTODY
Following the incident, the alleged officer, CPL Alfred Louis, was reportedly attacked and assaulted by an angry mob, sustaining multiple injuries.
The Rivers State Police Command confirmed that the officer and members of his team are currently in the custody of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
The Command said the officers will face appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the law, subject to the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
POLICE CONDEMNS ALLEGED ACTION
The Command strongly condemned the alleged conduct, stating that such action does not reflect the standards of professionalism expected of Police officers.
It further emphasized that the Rivers State Police Command will not shield any personnel found engaging in unethical conduct or actions capable of bringing the Nigeria Police Force into disrepute.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to investigating the incident and taking appropriate disciplinary measures against any officer found culpable.
